Social, Environmental & Economic Impact

A holistic approach to farming in Africa

Organic Africa’s farming and wild harvesting operations have pioneered inclusive value-added supply chains for remote and underserved rural communities across Southern Africa.

By connecting small-scale farmers and wild collectors to premium certified Organic (EU/NOP), Fair Trade, and FairWild markets at local, regional, and international levels, the company creates sustainable income opportunities while strengthening household food security. At the same time, the commercial value placed on indigenous plant resources provides strong incentives for communities to conserve and sustainably manage these natural assets.

Organic Africa’s integrated social, environmental, and economic impact model extends beyond crop production and wild harvesting. It creates a foundation for the long-term protection and regeneration of indigenous resources, resulting in healthier plant populations, increased productivity, higher incomes, improved food security, and enhanced rural livelihoods.

Through organic farming and sustainable wild collection, small-scale producers can reduce dependence on imported agricultural inputs, unsustainable harvesting practices, volatile commodity markets, low farmgate prices, and limited market access. In addition, the production of biochar creates opportunities for participation in emerging carbon trading markets, generating further income diversification and climate-related value creation.

Fair Trade and FairWild certifications ensure that partner farmers and collectors receive fair and stable pricing while building long-term commercial market linkages. These certifications also provide access to customer-funded community development premiums that support local economic growth and social investment.
